The Donskoy, sometimes called the Don Sphynx, is a Russian hairless breed that originated in Rostov-on-Don. Unlike the Sphynx, the Donskoy’s hair-loss trait is associated with a dominant gene. One of the breed’s most interesting characteristics is the variety of coat types it can display. TICA describes four types: Rubber Bald, Flocked, Velour, and Brush.

The breed originated in 1994 from a cross involving an Oriental Shorthair and a Donskoy.

Its distinctive roan pattern combines black and unpigmented hairs, creating its unusual wolf-like appearance. Lykoi cats are intelligent, active, and highly curious. Kohonas are generally described as affectionate and people-oriented. Because the breed is so uncommon, information about its personality and physical characteristics is much less standardized than information available for established breeds such as the Sphynx or Peterbald.
The absence of a protective coat makes skin care particularly important. These cats may be vulnerable to sun exposure, cold temperatures, and skin irritation. It is also important not to describe the Kohona as hypoallergenic simply because it lacks fur.

Canadian Hairless is a name historically associated with the early development of the modern Sphynx. The first breeding efforts began in Canada after a hairless kitten was born in Ontario in 1966. Because of this history, it is important to distinguish Canadian Hairless from the established Sphynx breed rather than presenting them as completely separate, widely recognized breeds. The modern Sphynx has a well-established breed standard and is recognized by major cat organizations.
